While I was whipping this out yesterday, Kaylie looked on amazed that I could crochet so fast. I asked her if she wanted to learn and she immediately said Yes! So we went and dug out a hook and some thread and I showed her the way you hold your thread (that took a few tries).
Then she learned to chain. She can do a lot of these and she has been practising like crazy. :)
Tomorrow we will move onto the single crochet so she can actually make something besides really loooong chains.
I remember being about the same age as Kaylie was when my Mom taught me and my sister to crochet. I think we tried to make pot holders...I can't remember if we were successful or not. Sadly I think that was the only time I tried crocheting until about two years into my marriage. They taught a hem stitching class at relief society. I loved it and then went on to make a few blankets. I am no pro by any means, but I have to admit it is very fulfilling to stitch yarn into something useful.
Isn't it funny how we get interested in all those things again - twenty years after our first introduction. I know for me kintting represents sanity - I don't think I NEEDED sanity twenty years ago. ;>
