Crochet

Yesterday was my ward Super Saturday. It was pretty low key as far as Super Saturdays go...no super amazing cool crafts to put together and pay for. Instead they went with the theme, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do with out." They showed us how to do braided rugs, gifts in a jar and crochet swiffer dusters covers.

It took me a couple hours to create this bad boy.

It is also very eco friendly if your trying to be "green."

While I was whipping this out yesterday, Kaylie looked on amazed that I could crochet so fast. I asked her if she wanted to learn and she immediately said Yes! So we went and dug out a hook and some thread and I showed her the way you hold your thread (that took a few tries).
Then she learned to chain. She can do a lot of these and she has been practising like crazy. :)

Tomorrow we will move onto the single crochet so she can actually make something besides really loooong chains.

I remember being about the same age as Kaylie was when my Mom taught me and my sister to crochet. I think we tried to make pot holders...I can't remember if we were successful or not. Sadly I think that was the only time I tried crocheting until about two years into my marriage. They taught a hem stitching class at relief society. I loved it and then went on to make a few blankets. I am no pro by any means, but I have to admit it is very fulfilling to stitch yarn into something useful.

  1. Isn't it funny how we get interested in all those things again - twenty years after our first introduction. I know for me kintting represents sanity - I don't think I NEEDED sanity twenty years ago. ;>
